My top 3 local beaches with kids

April 24, 2018

One of the most fun thing to do in San Diego is going to the Beach.

With a fantastic weather all year around, there are so many beaches to check out, but here are my top 3. They are convenient and not too far, and they offer parking and have bathrooms near (And we all know how a bathroom near is extremely important with little ones)! Have you checked out these beaches? Do you have any others that you prefer?

La Jolla Cove:

La Jolla Cove is one of the prettiest little beaches around, it is always on my to go to list when family is visiting and is always a hit. With white-sand crescents tucked between towering sandstone cliffs. Don't forget snorkeling equipment if you have older kids. Underwater visibility is vast, and the area is protected by the San Diego La Jolla Underwater Park Ecological Reserve. A lifeguard tower allows for safe swimming. The beach is on the smaller side and can be crowded on holidays and weekends. Now, la Jolla also have the "Children's Cove" aka the Seal beach, they are not near each other, but a stretch of grass allows for a pleasant stroll between the two. Be careful, parking is mostly free but if you are going there, plan on being there before 10 am , or it will be near impossible to find parking after that.

Coronado Beach:
Coronado Beach is home to the venerable Hotel del Coronado. It's the only California beach that regularly makes Dr. Beach's annual list of best beaches in the nation. You'll find spacious white-sand beaches, and summer lifeguards in a picturesque setting. It offers long stretch of sand and parking is available all over the island and you can finish your day with an ice cream at the Del Coronado!

Silverstrand  Beach:
Ok, it is technically on Coronado, but it is my personal favorite! You do have to pay for parking (for the hour of for the day, but the rates are reasonable) and oh what a beach! Long strand of sand, plenty of parking right next to the beach, lots of bathrooms. There is usally lots of small waves  for the adventurous body boarder or young surfer, and  a lifeguard tower for added safety.
